Christmas Wreath Cake

Create this sooo simple Christmas Wreath Cake. We combed the

cake with our 3-sided decorator's comb, leaf green Americolor

color gel for the frosting, red ribbon for our local craft store,

red candies, Tip #18 with our disposable decorator bags.

We made the wreath by making cursive "J's" around the top

border (two times around). We made the red ribbon bow using

our Modeling Candy recipe (see candy recipes) using red

candy melts.

Witch's Hat Cupcakes

We created this Witch Hat cupcake topper with our Faux

Fondant recipe, black and green Americolor gel colors, along

with our Wonder Cream Frosting recipe for the top of the

cupcake. We cut a circle of black fondant, then rolled a cone

to create to top of the hat. We attached the cone to the circle

with water. We rolled green fondant and cut into pieces to create

the belt of the hat. We allowed the Witch Hat to dry overnight

before adding to the cupcake.

Black & White Wedding Cake

My son Nick asked if I would make a wedding cake as

a gift for his friend Ryan and wife Gemma. Using our

Super Black Americolor, 19 piece Decorating Kit and

spatualas, I was able to create this black and white beauty.

I went to the craft store to purchase black ribbon. I was

going to use black fondant ribbon but worried about the

heat we have during the summer months.

A Soldiers Drum

Don't you love the sound of a beating drum?

Every year we attend our community Fourth of July parade and the

drum troop of soldiers is my favorite. This adorable drum is a perfect

cake for those special occasions we honor our military. I decorated with Sky Blue

frosting, red licorice, fruit roll-up and gum balls. I used candy cane

sticks for the drum sticks. The licorice drum handle is make by using

bamboo sticks to poke into side of the cake.

Fishin' for Fun

Four types of colorful candy was used for this cake (kids love it!).

I used fruit roll-ups for the fish tail (cut in feather shapes and

attached to a bamboo stick). Then I decorated top with M & M's,

and used fruit slices to create the fins and mouth. The swedish fish

candy adorn the plate. I colored the frosting with Americolor Lemon

Yellow paste (go to www.SweetArtFactory.com) and used a #16

tip to create the frosting borders and design.

Bread Cut-outs for Tea Party

Create delicious breakfast breads with any of our cookie

cutters. Here we used our 3-inch Tea Cup cookie cutter

to create banana bread tea cut-outs.

Step 1: Bake bread and allow to cool.

Step 2: Cut 3/4 inch slices of bread. Using cookie

cutter, make bread shapes.

Step 4: Spread softened cream cheese on top of bread.

Step 5: Place one bread ontop of the other to create

a tea bread sandwich.

On Memorial Day we spent the day giving honor

to those who have died for our freedom.

We visited a Veteran's Memorial which

highlighted letters written by our soldiers.

For dinner I made a delicious watermelon platter using

star and flag cookie cutters. I cut watermelon slices about

1-inch thick and then cut pieces using cookie cutters.

Making Jill's Faux Fondant

Owner & Creative Director of Sweet Art Factory makes her own fondant. She calls it Faux Fondant. Since fondant can be quite expensive and bland tasting, Jill creates her fondant using marshmallows, powdered sugar and a variety of clear flavorings (her favorite is almond flavoring). With just six easy steps, you'll be ready to decorate cake, cookies, brownies and cupcakes!

Ingredients:

1 16 oz. bag on Minature Marshmallows

2 lb. Confectioners Powdered Sugar

2 Tbsp. Gum Paste Mix (we sell 2 oz. jar)

1 Tbsp. Clear Extract or Flavoring (we use Almond)

Shortening (to coat your hands when mixing)

Step ONE & TWO

Place marshmallows in a microwave safe bowl. Heat for 1 minute. Stir and add your extract or flavoring. If not completely melted, heat at 20 second intervals until you can stir it and it is very smooth. Do not overheat.

Step THREE

Pour confectioners sugar in a large bowl. Mix in the Gum Paste Mix. Create a well in the center. You want to make sure that when you pour the marshmallow mixture into the bowl, it does not touch the sides.

Step FOUR

Pour the marshmallow mixture into the sugar bowl. Coat your hands with shortening. Begin to bring the sides of the sugar into the marshmallow mixture. Slowly add the sugar into the mixture. Eventually you will have a dough. If too sticky, you can add more confectioners sugar.

Step FIVE

Continue to knead the dough until it is a fondant texture. If you are not going to be using it right away, store it in Saran Wrap or Ziploc bag. Make sure you create an airtight seal. It should last about 2 - 4 weeks.

Step SIX

To create colored fondant, just add some food gel color into center of fondant. Knead the fondant until all the fondant is the color you desire.

Now, you're ready to roll it out and decorate!

Whether using fondant to decorate cookies, cakes, cupcakes, brownies, create figurines etc., you'll love working with this faux fondant.

Below is an example of rolling out the fondant and cutting shapes using our cookie cutters. Once the shapes are cut out, use a pastry brush to brush some water on the cookie before placing the fondant shape on top. The water will act as a glue for the shape to stay in place and dry nicely. Once you are finished, you can decorate the cookie using cookie icing.

4th of July Party on a Budget

4th of July Party on a Budget

Star-studded Table
You don’t have to purchase expensive table decorations to make a festive table.

Tablecloth: Buy red or blue plastic or vinyl tablecloths and 4th of July stickers. Place the stickers on the tablecloth.
Centerpieces: Purchase small clay pots, blue and red acrylic paint, and small American flags at the craft store. Paint the pots red and blue. When dry, turn them upside down and stick the flags in the hole. This not only makes a beautiful table, it give keeps the tablecloth from blowing away on a windy July day. This is a great kids project.
Dinnerware: Purchase red and blue paper plates and alternate them in a basket. Buy red, white and blue plastic ware and put in a clear plastic cup with a festive napkin. When your guests come to the table, they only have to pick up the cup and plate. Keep a permanent marker handy to write names on the plastic cups to keep track of their drinks.
Sweet Surprise: Put clear bowls filled with red, white and blue bubble gum balls around the table for added fun.

Simple Finger Foods
Create a table of finger foods for people to come and grab in between games and activities.

Star Sandwiches: Make star-shaped sandwiches by cutting stars using a large star cookie cutter. Fill sandwiches with strawberry jelly and cream cheese for a red ribbon delight.
Fruit Fun Skewers: Using bamboo sticks slide fresh strawberries, marshmallow, and watermelon squares to create a red and white enjoyment.
Veggie Platter: Cut the top and clean the seeds out of a red bell pepper. Fill the pepper with your favorite veggie dip. Layer cut-up vegetables on a platter. On a hot day, sprinkle top of veggies with crushed ice.
Red, White and Blue Fruit Salad: Mix cut-up strawberries, blueberries, mini marshmallows with sour cream and coconut for a scrumptious salad. Spoon in plastic cups for a quick grab off the table. Make the night before and store in the refrigerator for a better tasting salad.
Chips and Salsa: Make a nacho platter with chips, salsa and sour cream.
Hot Dog Bar: Create a grab-and-go hot dog bar by putting ketchup, mustard, relish and crushed onions in squeeze bottles. Keep the buns moist in a covered container until the hot dogs are ready off the grill.
Chicken Kabobs: Grill pieces of marinated chicken, cherry tomatoes and pineapple chunks for a quick bite between tug-o-war.
Star-shaped Cookies: Using a large star cookie cutter to make sugar cookies, decorate with store-bought frosting and red and blue sprinkles. You can make these days ahead and store in airtight container or freeze in a storage bag.

Wild and Wacky Games
Outdoors games create the wonderful memories of the day. Enjoy family fun with these simple and affordable games.

Water Balloon Toss: Fill red, white and blue water balloons with water. Store in a bucket filled with water before the game. Have teams of two stands face-to-face and toss the balloon to each other. Those who did not drop the balloon take a step back. Each team keeps stepping back until only one team is left.
Patriotic Yo-Yo’s: Fill red, white and blue water balloons with water. Tie a heavy-duty rubber band to the ends. The balloons will become a fun yo-yo for the kids.

Blue Bubblegum Blowing Contest: Purchase Blueberry bubblegum and give each participant a chance to prove they can blow the biggest bubble.
Pillowcase Races: Using your pillowcases, have each person jump in their pillowcases to the finish line. Use detergent to get any grass stains out.
Red and Blue Plate Toss: Purchase a hula-hoop and red and blue paper plates. Have participants see how many paper plates they can toss into the hula-hoop circle.
Watermelon Eating Contest: Cut large wedges of seedless watermelon. See who can eat the watermelon the fastest.

Baking Summer Tips and Tricks:

Baking in the summer months can be challenging. With the humidity and heat most of us experience there are ways to make baking possible.

Bake at night. It is cooler at night and the house can handle a little extra heat.
Prepare frosting and decorate baked cakes in the early morning or evening to avoid heat-related decorating dilemmas.
Always refrigerate your cakes after they are completed. This will firm the frosting and decoration before setting it on the table. Do not freeze the cake.
Place your decorated cake in a cool area. If you have to place the cake outside, make sure it is in a shaded area with a cool breeze. Frosting is made of shortening or butter and it will melt easily if in direct sunlight or warm areas.
If you are going to be outside in the heat, keep the cake in a cool area until the cake cutting happens. Bring the cake out right before the cake cutting.
If traveling with the cake, place the cake in an air-conditioned car away from direct sunlight. Most back seats of cars have tinted windows to protect from the heat of the sun. Do not put the cake in a trunk of a car as it will not receive the cool air of the air-conditioner.

Pirates of the Carribean Cake

You Need:

2 (8 or 9 inch round cake (any flavor), baked, cooled and refrigerated
1 1/2 batch Wonder Cream Frosting (see recipe below)
Dark blue or brown AirHeads candy
M & M’s candy (yellow, red and orange)

Supplies Needed: Spatula, blue, pink and orange food coloring or paste, star tip-#16,
disposable decorating bags (all found at www.SweetArtFactory.com).

Step-by-Step:

Level your cooled cakes. Fill one layer with frosting. Place other cake on top.
Mix 2 cups of frosting with one drop of pink and orange food gel. Mix well until you get a flesh color. Spread White Wonder Cream frosting over entire cake. Smooth with a straight spatula.
Mix the rest of the frosting with blue food paste. Insert the star tip into a decorator bag or freezer storage bag. Snip ¼ inch of the bag so the tip is halfway through. Add the blue frosting into the bag.
Using the star tip, make a pirate bandana by making small c’s along the top half of the cake and around the sides of the cake at a slant. Use the above photo as your guide. Place red and orange M & M’s to decorate the bandana.
Make o’s around the bottom edge of the cake. Place yellow M & M’s around the border.
Using an AirHead candy, cut a thin strip to make the string of the patch. Lay that across the cake.
Place dark AirHead pieces in a microwave for 5 seconds until soft. Flatten the pieces. Using scissors, make a patch and an eye. Use the photo as a guide. Place pieces on the cake.
Make a pirate mouth with red M & M’s.

Wonder Cream Frosting
You Need:

1 tub (16 oz. vanilla frosting
1 tub (16 oz) Crisco® shortening (use tub of frosting to measure)
1 box powdered sugar
1/4 cup warm water
How-To-Make: In a mixing bowl combine the frosting and tub of shortening. On low speed, beat the frosting and shortening until mixed well. While mixer is still on, slowly add the powdered sugar. Add a small amount of warm water until the mixture is smooth. Once all the ingredients are mixed together, beat for about one minute longer. If the frosting seems stiff, add some more warm water. If the frosting seems too runny, add powdered sugar.

in halves.Turn each half to the opposite to make the

No fondant or gumpaste needed! All you need is:

White AirHeads Candy

Green AirHeads Candy

Yellow Mike & Ike Candy

Before starting, heat the airheads for 5-7 seconds in a microwave.

Place two pieces together and flatten. Cut into triangles.

Follow the Step-by-Step of cutting each flower and folding.

Cut the leaves with scissors too! Using the heat of your fingers,

mold the leaves to flowers and gently place on your decorated cake.

Chick & Bunny Pops

Easy to create cake pops. Just bake a cake and cool. Mix in

store-bought frosting to create a dough. Mold into shapes.

Make a round shape for the chick and egg shape for the

bunny. Cool in refrigerator on a plate for 1 hour.

Insert cookie sticks or wooden sticks (we carry many kinds).

Dip in melted candy chocolate (choose the colors you desire or

add gel paste colors - lemon yellow was used for the chick).

Let cool. Decorate with quins and candies.

(I love Duncan Hines Devil's Food Cake Mix, I substitute 1 Cup

of my left over morning coffee in place of 1 cup water), my

Wonder Cream Frosting (see recipes at www.SweetArtFactory.com ),

bubble gum, ice cream cones and Starburst candy, decorating bag

& tips & your favorie color pastes - and have FUN!

To create the Ice Cream cones effect, take a sharp knife and

carefully cut down the seam of the cone. Carefully break apart.

Sometimes I mess up a few cones before I get it right.

Just place them into the cake and fill with frosting to give the Ice Cream

look.

Pink Princess Purse Cake

(we used pillow mints, good & plenty candy (the white ones)

and pink licorice. We created the purse handles by measuring

two licorice pieces 8-inches long. We inserted the handles

by putting 4 inch cut bamboo sticks in the ends of licorice.

Wii tennis. The Wii controllers are made with rice Krispy

treats covered in fondant. Handles made with rolled

fondant and cut into strips. Tennis balls are yellow gumballs.

The rest is made with buttercream frosting and fondant.

Cupcake Brownies

Chocolate Cupcake Brownies

How to Make:

Bake a batch of brownies (my favorite is Duncan Hines) in a cookie sheet pan. Cool to room temperature. Using our 3-inch Cupcake Muffin cookie cutter, cut out the muffin shapes. Lay on a decorative tray. Using our Chocolate Fondant or chocolate frosting, create the cupcake liner. If using fondant, roll out to a thin layer. Using the cookie cutter, cut the bottom part of cupcake and lay on top of the brownie. Make buttercream frosting (see our recipes). Using a #16 decorating tip and disposable decorating bag, pipe swirls to create the frosted cupcake. Sprinkle with a variety of edible quins (we used red heart quins and multi-color heart quins).

Ice Cream Cone Brownies

Delicious brownies using our Ice Cream Cone cookie cutter, orange & violet color gets, multi-color heart quines, disposable decorating bags & #16 decorating tip. Drizzle chocolate sauce to create the cone.

I just baked a pan of Duncan Hines brownies in a cookie sheet. I let brownies cool, then made the shapes using the ice cream cone cookie cutter. These were a hit at the party!

EGGsiting Easter Cookies

You Need:

•Baked and cooled sugar cookies (see Recipes at http://www.sweetartfactory.com/)
•Cookie Cutters – we have 100’s to choose from
•1 batch Royal Icing (see Recipes)
•Food gel paste colors you desire (we have many to choose from)
•Edible Quins and Pearls (we have many to choose from)
*Fondant (find at local craft store)

Supplies Needed:
Small spatula, writing tips #3 or #4, disposable decorator bags and toothpicks.

How to Make:
1.Make cookie dough recipe. Cool in the refrigerator for 2 or more hours. When ready to use, take out of the refrigerator. Roll cookie dough out on a floured board with a rolling pin (make cookies about 1/4 inches). Continue to dust rolling pin with flour to prevent the dough from sticking. Using cookie-cutter – cut out cookie shapes. If using cookie sticks (we carry 6 & 8 inch), lay them under the cookie before baking. Press lightly to make sure the cookie stick adheres to the cookie before baking.
2.Bake cookies as directed on recipe. Allow cookie to cool before decorating. While cookies are cooling, make the royal icing or roll out fondant.

Royal Icing Decorating:
1.After making royal icing, create the colors you desire by adding food gel paste and mix well. Royal icing dries fast so keep your bowl of icing covered at all times with a wet paper towel or saran wrap.
2.When ready to decorate, fill a decorator bag with a #3 or #4 tip and desired color of royal icing. Carefully outline the cookies with the icing to create a seal around the cookie. Once this border outline is dry, you will be able to spread a layer of icing inside the border to create a beautiful top layer of your cookie.
3.Using spatula or knife, spread a layer of desired color icing on the top of the cookie. Allow drying before creating designs.
4.Using some of my designs, create your own cookie designs using a variety of icing colors and the #3 or #4 tip.
5.Adorn cookies with edible quins and sprinkles. Allow to dry before stacking or packaging.

Fondant Decorating:
1. Roll out fondant to desired thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out the shapes you need. Using a paint brush or tip of finger, get the back of the fondant shapes slightly wet so it sticks to the cookie or other layer of fondant. Adorn with edible quins and sprinkles. You can pipe on royal icing too. Allow royal icing to dry before displaying.

How to Make:

1. Bake and cool two 8-inch cakes (go to SweetArtFactory.com for recipes)

2. Frost cake using buttercream or our WonderCream recipe. Save 3/4 cup frosting to create

yellow frosting. Mix lemon yellow gel paste to create vibrant color.

3. Cut green sour rope to create stripes on side of the cake. Carefully place into the cake.

4. Insert #16 tip into decorating bag. Fill with yellow frosting. Pipe zig-zags inbetween the sour

rope stripes.

5. Cut small 1-inch pieces of sour rope and scatter on the top of the cake to create grass look.

6. Place plastic eggs on top of the cake. Place some frosting in each egg to allow Peeps

bunnies to stand up. Place bunnies into the eggs. Scatter jellybeans on top of cake.
